Analysing a TV Advertisement Essay - 1596 Words

Analysing a TV Advertisement The TV advert that I am going to analyse is advertising Comfort, the clothes washing liquid. This advert is very, very unusual. It is about a family made out of fabric, a little bit like rag dolls. I am going to analyse this advert shot by shot so it is easy to understand. The first shot is set in the bathroom of the Clothes family. Little Lisa cloth is extremely upset that her boyfriend is leaving town for a little while. At the start of the advert she is standing in the bathroom looking extremely upset. Her mother then comes in. This first shot is a tracking shot as it moves with the mum as she enters the bathroom and walks forward to talk to her daughter. The†¦show more content†¦This means that getting the costumes just right is extremely vital. In this first shot there are two people, the mum and the daughter. The mum in this case is wearing an assortment of garments made from different types of fabric. The colours also vary from orange and brown. These colours give connotations of warmth and sanctuary. It also suggests the feeling of the sun and fire. The lady also looks strangely like a lion. I am not sure whether this connotation was supposed to be implemented but I think that this suggests the feeling of being protective in a mothe rly sort of way. The girl however is wearing a different sort of costume. The colours are girlier, pinks and purples but they are not very bright. Her clothes give connotations of being droopy, worried and sad. Her pale face suggests that she maybe a little queasy and her expression also gives these implications. At the bottom of the page, during the first shot, a small set of writing appears at the bottom of the screen saying The Clothes Family. The first letters of these three words are boxed and all the letters are different shades, such as, cream, pink, and yellow. The font is sort of furry and rugged which looks like cloth or fabric. As the thing that is being advertised is involved with clothes, this goes well with the whole advert. It Pays to Take Risks free essay sample

As we grow older, at some point in our lives, we would have to face decisions that involve, perhaps, very big risks; decisions that impose us to go to lengths that we have not ventured into. Yet, it is with these risks that allow us to make better decisions and hence choose what is best for ourselves. Taking risks has its shortcomings. One of the most common reasons why people choose not to take risks is because it is dangerous – one may need to face uncomfortable setbacks in the process. Taking risks requires people to get out of their comfort-zones, out into the open to do things that are distressing to them. By definition, to risk means to be exposed to the chance of injury or loss. Often, people do not take the risk due to fear of failure or humiliation. Therefore, when people take risks, they often need to lose something in one way or another. We will write a custom essay sample on It Pays to Take Risks or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page In addition, whenever we take risks, there is a higher chance of failure because we are doing something that we have not done before. There are many things that are still alien to us out there in the world, therefore we would not know what the outcome will be if we were to venture into that area. Anyone brave enough to risk it by putting his all into that field of work faces a huge loss should he fail. Steve Jobs is one prime example. He started out with nothing, but slowly built his way upwards to success. It was hard work and he could have lost everything with one mistake, but he persevered. Even after being diagnosed with cancer, he refused to undergo operation and continued to work hard for the Apple Company that he founded. If he had not done that, there would not be new versions of iPhones and other Apple products because after all, Steve Jobs knows it best. However, risk-taking is not all about facing setbacks. It also gives us the opportunity to gain new learning experiences. Whenever we take a risk, there will always be lessons learnt in the process. Mikhail Baryshnikov said, â€Å"To walk across the street is a risk. † Even the simplest of things are risks. Yet from doing these simple things, we will be able to gain valuable lessons from the experience alone. Thus, risk-taking exposes us to different situations and allows us to derive learning lessons from them. Moreover, risk-taking would allow us to have a higher possibility of discovering something new. If we do not step out of our comfort-zone, we would never have the chance to try anything new, much less discover anything new. Take J. K. Rowling for example. After graduating, her marriage failed and she was jobless with a dependent child. However, she continued writing ‘Harry Potter’ even when her mother passed on. As Brian Ferneyhough quotes, â€Å"If nothing is at risk, nothing is established. † Hence, if J. K. Rowling had given up on herself, the book ‘Harry Potter’ would never have existed. But she had done the opposite instead: she risked her daughter, risked her studies, and even risked her life. This resulted in her being able to be successful. Her books have gained immense popularity, critical acclaim and commercial success worldwide, and were even made into movies. In conclusion, although taking risks means that we have to go against certain odds, but if the outcome is successful, there would be great improvements in our current life. The act of being able to come upon a new idea is indeed rewarding, and definitely worth the risk. Vincent van Gogh once said, â€Å"What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything? † If there were no one who would dare to take those risks, there would not be any changes in life from when it first started till now. We should all muster up the fearful courage and take the risk, for we never know what the outcome is. Therefore, it does pay to take risks.

What is state constructing? Largely the construct refers to the procedure that is followed in reconstituting a state that is non working decently as it is expected. A good illustration is of a state that is seeking to better its economic system that has collapsed. The term is besides be used to intend building a state utilizing the powers conferred to it by the topic so that it could be politically stable and feasible. There are assorted methods that are used in state edifice. Some authoritiess use propagandas while others build substructure to convey societal integrating and harmoniousness every bit good as economic growing. The term largely fits to the African states that are seeking to determine their districts freshly after colonialists divided them without sing cultural and other divisions in those parts. State edifice can be either peaceable or violent. The chief focal point of this paper will be to compare and contrast the two classs. We will write a custom essay sample on Peaceful vs. Violent Nation Building in Africa Essay Sample or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page In normal events. every province should be able to supply for its people and should be able to protect the rights of its citizens. One chief job that authorities face is the challenge of maintaining a stable authorities face is the challenge of maintaining a stable authorities that is capable of run intoing basic criterions of its citizens. The failure of the authorities to supply and protect its citizens is what broods force. Multi cultural society is one of the factors that contribute to the violent peace doing procedure. There are assorted methods that can be used in peaceable state edifice for illustration. the party system and subscribing common understandings with differing parties. One scheme for advancing peaceable state edifice is by instilling the civilization of peace in school. By this manner. the future coevalss will acquire this civilization from their predecessors. The construct of state edifice as I mentioned earlier was used in decolonisation plans but later it shifted to other facets of life. It procedure has been and is still an on-going procedure. Violence in state edifice is unsafe ( Hippler J. 2005 ; 27-43 ) It was used in states like Rwanda. Sudan Somali and other African provinces like in the instance of Rwanda where in a command to take control in state constructing a battle erupted between Tutsi and Hutus. A batch of people were killed particularly from the minority Tutsi in 1994 under what is now referred as the Rwandan race murder. This struggle besides created the job of refugees. Many people who were get awaying from Rwanda went to the adjacent states as refugees. Many of them died of cholera. dysentery and other diseases. Another disadvantage of violent state edifice is that human rights are abused. For illustration. in Sudan and Rwanda many people lost their lives. adult females were raped while others were held captives of war. Even kids were conscripted in the ground forces. Violent state edifice has besides been witnessed in Darfur part in Western Sudan. The crisis is between two cultural folks where one group comprises of Baggagra who are Arabs while the other one is comprised of Zaghawa. Massaleit and Fur who are land tillers unlike Baggara who are camel keepers. This struggle has been caused by deficit of resources. Baggara folk started it in 2003 while in hunt of H2O in the South confronted the non-Arab communities. The struggle has led to about 450. 000 deceases. Many diseases have occurred in the part. A batch of people have been displaced and are now refugees either at place or in the adjacent states. This violent state edifice scheme has led to the break of economic societal instruction every bit good as economic establishments. This is because spiritual establishments that help in incorporating people can non even conduct their concerns and trade freely as they used before the crisis erupted. It should be known that states develop because of the peaceable environment that they enjoy at place. This why states like Rwanda. Uganda and Sudan are among the poorest states in the universe If you have watched the last male monarch of Scotland movie that was released in 2006 so. you can truly see the demerits of utilizing force as a scheme of state edifice. The movie is about the rise and autumn of Idi Amin as president in 1971 and his autumn in 1979. A violent scheme in hunt of peace promotes terrorist act. smuggling of goods and other illegal concerns are conducted. This happened in Uganda when Amin was in a command to beef up his place ( Hansen H. B. and Twaddle M. ( Eds ) 1994 ; 78-85 ) He smuggled goods across the boundary line and sold illegal pieces to Rebels in southern part of Sudan. President Obote ordered for his house apprehension but this thought failed to happen. Eventually Amin staged a putsch when Obote went to Singapore in 1971 to go to a commonwealth meeting. Harmonizing to the international human rights groups. about 100 1000s to three 1000 people were killed. Most of these were from Lango. Acholi and other cultural communities. Amin forced Asians out of the state. which he proudly described as ‘black man’s state. ’ Though many Ugandans approved the move. their going had serious impact on sugar and fabric industries that closed down. Besides educational topographic points that were run by Asians were closed. By 1970s Uganda was in an economical muss and even now it is still seeking to retrieve from the depredations it inherited from the regulation of Idi Amin Dada. On the other manus. peaceable state edifice has its virtues. It is more recommended than violent one. It happened in Senegal after it become independent in 1960. Senghor who was the president took control over Senegal. He made confederations with the local leaders from assorted folks. In this manner. he was able to put a phase for his state to develop through his gradual reforms scheme. Africans in Senegal were unified by their strong desire to be independent and were determined to reconstitute their bedraggled state shortly after the Gallic authorities moved out. From the independency period. leaders have been seeking to advance national trueness. They used the scheme of ‘ethnic arithmetic’ in interpreting regional truenesss into national truenesss. This scheme saved people from casting unneeded blood after they got their independency ( Desmond J. Clark and Roland 1975 ; 123 ) In Tanzania. state edifice thrived good without ensuing to an armed struggle. This can be attributed to the policies of Mwalimu Julius Nyerere. A close expression at the Tanzanian instance. one can clearly see that any state can develop irrespective of its different cultural backgrounds with assorted linguistic communications. In Tanzania. media and educational systems were employed to instill in people the desire to unify for national development as opposed to regional or cultural prevarications. Through Nyerere’s administrative accomplishments. Tanzania had peaceable national development schemes and has neer witnessed any violent mutiny except a little mutiny that broke out in his ground forces but was suppressed immediately with the aid of British military personnels. Many African leaders did non O.K. this thought and referred to it as neo colonialism ( Zell Hans M. ( Ed ) 2006 ; 631 ) As we have noted. states traveling from pandemonium to order takes clip to accomplish their dream but if they once more embark on armed struggle. the state edifice procedure goes back to square one. In a nutshell. state edifice means seting all establishments whether economic. political. judicial. societal or medical in a incorporate whole. It is this interrelation that creates a fertile land for national development. This is what has made states like Senegal and Tanzania to develop while Sudan and Rwanda are economically dawdling behind. Monetary And Fiscal Policy Essays - Monetary Policy, Public Finance

Monetary And Fiscal Policy Essays - Monetary Policy, Public Finance Monetary and Fiscal Policy The Monetary and Fiscal Policies, although controlled by two different organizations, are the ways that our economy is kept under control. Both policies have their strengths and weaknesses, some situations favoring use of both policies, but most of the time, only one is necessary. The monetary policy is the act of regulating the money supply by the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, currently headed by Alan Greenspan. One of the main responsibilities of the Federal Reserve System is to regulate the money supply so as to keep production, prices, and employment stable. The ?Fed? has three tools to manipulate the money supply. They are the reserve requirement, open market operations, and the discount rate. The most powerful tool available is the reserve requirement. The reserve requirement is the percentage of money that the bank is not allowed to loan out. If it is lowered, banks are required to keep less money, and so more money is put out into circulation (theoretically). If it is raised, then banks may have to collect on some loans to meet the new reserve requirement. The tool known as open market operations influences money and credit operations by buying and selling of government securities on the open market. This is used to control overall money supply. If the Fed believes there is not enough money in circulation, then they will buy the securities from member banks. If the Fed believes there is too much money in the economy, they will sell the securities back to the banks. Because it is easier to make gradual changes in the supply of money, open market operations are use more regularly than monetary policy. When member banks want to raise money, they can borrow from Federal Reserve Banks. Just like other loans, there is an interest rate, or a discount rate, the third tool of the monetary policy. If the discount rate is high, then fewer banks will be inclined to borrow, and if it is low, more banks will (theoretically) borrow from the reserve banks. The discount rate is not used as frequently as it was in the past, but it does serve as an indicator to private bankers of the intentions of the Fed to constrict or enlarge the money supply. The monetary policy is a good way to influence the money supply, but it does have its weaknesses. One weakness is that tight money policy works better that loose money policy. Tight money works on bringing money in to stop circulation, but for loose policy to really work, people have to want loans and want to spend money. Another problem is monetary velocity. The number of times per year a dollar changes hands for goods and services is completely independent of the money supply, and can sometimes contradict the efforts of the Fed. The benefits of the monetary system are that it can be enacted immediately with quick results. There are no delays from congress. Second, the Fed uses partisan politics, and so has no ties to any political party, but acts in the best interests of the U.S. Economy. The second way to influence the money supply lies in the hands of the government with the Fiscal Policy. The fiscal policy consists of two main tools. The changing of tax rates, and changing government spending. The main point of fiscal policy is to keep the surplus/deficit swings in the economy to a minimum by reducing inflation and recession. A change in tax rates is usually implemented when inflation is unusually high, and there is a recession with high unemployment. With high inflation, taxes are increased so people have less to spend, thus reducing demand and inflation. During a recession with high unemployment, taxes are lowered to give more people money to spend and thus increasing demand for goods and services, and the economy begins to revive. A change in government spending has a stronger effect on the economy than a change in tax rates. When the government decides to fight a recession it can spend a large amount of money on goods and services, all of which is released into the economy. Despite the effectiveness of the Fiscal policy, it does have

Do you think that people should be allowed to do whatever they want as long as it doesnt harm anyone else Why or why not What qualifies as harm - Essay Example alking totally nude in the public, he is not only casting bad impression on the passersby in general and the children in particular, but he is also inculcating many confusions and complications in the minds of the innocent children. He might seem to be causing no harm, but he is definitely instigating others to commit sin just by looking at him as watching others nude is classified as a sin in certain religions. Harm can be defined as offense. Offense may happen at any level which may or may not be overt to everybody. Role of government in East Asian miracle Research Paper

Role of government in East Asian miracle - Research Paper Example This paper discusses the economic boom which we see in East Asian countries. Despite a few ups and downs close to the end of the century, it is an example of regional development beyond anything. The rapid and well paced development that came in the last 40 years started off largely based on development and manufacturing of simple products like toys and apparel but then keeping up the pace of development reached to the development of automobiles and robots. With mass production and integration of technology and the products marketed towards the major European and American markets, the principal factors that have proven to be the major advantages are low cost of labor, growth in production quality and experience, competitive currency exchange rates in the region and compared to other global currencies and integration of latest technology in the production processes. A clear example of such development is clearly evident from the progress of china which became one of the leading produc ers of products that are completing with some of the most popular brands in the world. Japan which was entirely devastated due to the Second World War did not come out of its chaotic situation automatically; instead, the entire fabric of the country was integrated into one agenda that was of massive development. Unlike most of the westerns countries, the major player in the development of most of the East Asian countries remains the government. Each government played a pivotal role in the formulation of policy and national agenda of economic development that resulted in the miracle to happen. The fact cannot be denied that the global economic changes also played their role in the rapid progress of this region but not completely responsible for it. An independent study conducted by the World Bank on the progress of East Asian tigers, the â€Å"The East Asian Miracle† remarks that: Fundamentally sound development policy was a major ingredient in achieving rapid growth: macro ma nagement, saving promotion policies, education, agricultural productivity, . . . But these fundamental policies do not tell the whole story. Government intervened, targeting selected industries, promoting exports, low interest rates, protecting certain industries, . . . rapid growth has at times benefited from careful policy intervention. (1996: 5) The governments have the control and the ability or forming broad based policies that can be applied on a vast scale with a mission of developing standard policies and delivery of the services. With rapidly changing and uncertain global economics, the macroeconomics of the regions is

Wildlife Rehabilitation Center Essay Example for Free

Wildlife Rehabilitation Center Essay As a kid and an adult, I have encountered numerous occasions in which I’ve stumbled upon a neglected baby bird. Instinctually, I would think picking up the baby bird, bringing it into my home, and consoling it would be the most beneficial to the animal. After reading an article on South Plains Wildlife Rehabilitation Centers (SPWRC) website, I was surprised to learn doing the exact opposite would be better for the birds’ ultimate well-being. There are many issues that can be easily over looked because they do not necessarily affect one’s life directly. The both educational and environmentally beneficial programs at the South Plains Wildlife Rehabilitation Center can be a useful tool, to not only open one’s eyes to unseen issues, but also create a more diverse and stable local wildlife. South Plains Wildlife Rehabilitation Center hosts a variety of volunteer opportunities. In my opinion the most exciting program would be the hands on wildlife care program. This program involves, preparing meals, feeding animals, and helping with medical treatment, all while creating unique bonds with each animal. Also, the volunteer would learn the procedures for aiding the animals that are brought in for care and answering any questions about a wildlife emergency properly. If one is more drawn to the outdoors and wants more of a physical volunteer experience, helping with the building and grounds maintenance is a perfect opportunity for physical work. The program involves handy work, lawn care, landscaping, and general maintenance activities. Most importantly, this program includes the responsibility of maintaining a clean and suitable environment for the animals. Another opportunistic program with SPWRC is the environmental education program. This program is for volunteers who enjoy educating the public, it involves setting up educational materials, being able to handle educational animals, and teaching the community about the centers’ wildlife. To aid in this program volunteers will learn new materials necessary to inform the public and will also need to be open to creating ideas to help form new community outreach programs. For some volunteers who prefer to be a little more behind the scenes, there are opportunities to assist in fundraising and clerical work around the center. Fundraising will need volunteers to be able to participate and help with campaign activities. Clerical work will involve simple errands that will aid in the administrative office with staying up to date with important information. To get started with volunteering at South Plains Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, first depends on whether the volunteer is an adult or junior. Juniors’ fall under the age group of twelve to seventeen years old, because of their age, they need a parents’ approval and are restricted in helping with certain animals. An adult volunteer can help with any of the animals, if properly vaccinated and possesses a certificate with a notary seal for proof. There is also a questionnaire that must be filled out by all volunteers. After the proper vaccinations and the questionnaire have been completed, they will be sent to the volunteer coordinator. Soon after, the volunteer will be called for an orientation session, if qualified. South Plains Wildlife Rehabilitation Center is a non-profit organization that solely depends on its volunteers and the amount of donations given by the community. Without these two major factors, the rehabilitation center would not be able to function. With volunteering, an important role in this organization, there are a variety of volunteer opportunities waiting to be fulfilled. No matter how one chooses to get involved with SPWRC’s programs, the benefits of doing so echo both throughout the community and within oneself.
